Bayern comeback against Porto 'miraculous' - Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge praised his side's "miraculous" 6-1 victory over Porto as they progressed to the Champions League semifinals.

Bayern lost the first leg 3-1 in Portugal and, with players including Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery absent through injury, the German champions appeared to be facing an uphill battle to progress.

However, they were 5-0 up at half-time at the Allianz Arena thanks to goals from Thiago Alcantara, Jerome Boateng, Thomas Muller and a Robert Lewandowski brace.

Jackson Martinez gave Porto hope of a comeback in the 73rd minute, but Xabi Alonso's fine free kick in the 88th minute saw Bayern through 7-4 on aggregate.

"We just witnessed something miraculous," Rummenigge said after the game on the club's official Twitter feed.

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, had endured a difficult week after the first-leg defeat but said he had been confident his side could come back.

"I had the feeling over the last few days that we would do it," he said. "The players were my heroes after the defeat. Now it's easy to love them."

Porto boss Julen Lopetegui, who played alongside Guardiola at Barcelona, was quick to praise his former teammate's side.

"Bayern deserved to win by this much," he said. "You just have to congratulate them. They were magnificent in the first half."
