Atletico Madrid won't be looking for revenge in Real Madrid UCL rematch

Atletico Madrid director Clemente Villaverde has said his side will not be out for revenge after they were drawn against neighbours Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Last season, Ateltico were within moments of beating Real in the final before Sergio Ramos headed a 93rd-minute equaliser and Los Blancos went on to win 4-1 in extra time.

Speaking to Canal Plus immediately after the draw -- which will see Atleti at home in the first leg -- Villaverde said: "I believe that, in the end, recalling situations past does not help at all.

"We must focus on this tie, with the respect that Real Madrid deserve for all they signify. We must focus on forgetting everything, and look on it as a completely new game."

The Champions League final defeat is Atletico's only loss in the last eight derbis, and in their most recent meeting they thrashed their rivals 4-0 at home.

But Villaverde said: "Football does not have a memory. We have had the good fortune to come out on top recently, but we must prepare for this game as if they [those wins] had never happened.

"Circumstances all change -- a Champions League tie is not the same as the day-to-day games in La Liga. Madrid have impressive power, and in all competitions they will fight for everything."

Meanwhile, Real director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno said the team would need to be at full strength and full focused to overcome their neighbours.

Speaking to Canal Plus, he said: "Atletico are a very competitive team. We have played them many times, and we know each other very well. We must be at our best to make the semis.

"It is important for us to get our injured players back so that we arrive in the tie in the best way possible. We have three weeks ahead, which is enough time."

He was reluctant to conclude that playing the second leg at home would give the advantage to Real, adding: "You never know about that.

"If we are able to get a good result in the Calderon, then always playing the second game with your fans could have an advantage.

"We must be switched on completely, as Atletico always focus on all details and can take advantage of anything. We must be at the same level as them to qualify."
