Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi has praised coach Laurent Blanc after he masterminded the French club's Champions League defeat of Chelsea.

French media reported earlier this week Blanc could quit PSG next summer despite a year remaining on his contract as he feels he is not given enough support from his bosses.

Blanc had reportedly been particularly irritated by Al Khelaifi publicly stating he hoped PSG's group stage defeat to Barcelona in December, which meant them finishing second in the section and eventually pitted them against Chelsea, would be "the last of the season."

However, having seen Blanc outwit Jose Mourinho and the PSG players, who played for nearly 90 minutes with 10 men after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's 31st-minute red card, match their Chelsea counterparts to secure a 2-2 draw and go through to the last eight on away goals, Al Khelaifi had nothing but praise for his coach.

"I'm very happy for our coach," said the Qatari, who spent the game in the Stamford Bridge dugout alongside Blanc. "He had the right tactics, made the right substitutions. Laurent Blanc has beaten Mourinho."

Following the 1-1 draw in the first leg in Paris, PSG arrived in London with many expecting them to fall to Chelsea for the second successive season having exited the competition on away goals at the quarterfinal stage last term.

However, former Chelsea man David Luiz forced extra time when he struck five minutes after Gary Cahill's 81st-minute opener with Thiago Silva getting the decisive second in the 114th-minute to cancel out Eden Hazard's penalty earlier in extra time.

It was only the third time in nine attempts a French side had triumphed over an English opponent in European club football's premier competition, but Al Khelaifi revealed he had been confident his players could cause an upset.

"Before the match, I looked the players in the eye and told them we could do it. Everyone believed in it. I am really very proud. We played for 95 minutes with 10 warriors, in an incredible atmosphere that made me feel like we were at home," said the Qatari, who has been at the head of PSG since Qatar Sports Investments bought the club in 2011 and announced they wanted to win the Champions League within five years.

"Having beaten a team like Chelsea, I think we can go far this year. It's an historic match, and it ended in the opposite way to last year when we were knocked out by a late goal. Our project is on the right track."
