Eden Hazard: Leaving Chelsea for PSG was never an option

Eden Hazard has told French TV that there was never any chance he would move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Hazard, 24, was linked with a big-money switch PSG but last week put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at Chelsea until the summer of 2020.

However, despite press speculation that he could return to Ligue 1, having joined Chelsea from Lille for 32 million pounds three years ago, the Belgium international was never interested in a transfer to Paris.

"Personally, there has never been anything with PSG," he told TF1. "I knew from the start I wanted to stay. I don't want to move, I'm good here."

Hazard will get the chance to show PSG what they are missing when Chelsea meet them in the Champions League round of 16, with the first leg in the French capital on Tuesday. The two teams met in the quarterfinals last season, with Chelsea advancing on away goals -- thanks to Hazard's spot-kick in the Parc des Princes.

"Last year wasn't a miracle," he insisted. "If you look at the first leg, we didn't deserve to lose 3-1. It was a little fortunate, because we scored late on, but we didn't rob anyone.

"This year, it'll be a different encounter. We're on a good run, we have strengthened our squad. Paris are having a few more problems, but they have a lot of great players. They'll be ready.

"I think it's 50/50. For the football world, we're perhaps favourites, but you never know what will happen."

Hazard no longer feels Chelsea need to rely on his prodigious talents quite so much following the arrivals of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.

Hazard contributed 14 goals and seven assists in 32 top-flight outings last season as Chelsea finished third in the Premier League.

He has been impressive again this term, but said the supporting cast at Stamford Bridge, supplemented by last summer's arrivals of Fabregas and Costa, means he no longer tops the bill alone, and denied Chelsea are Hazard-dependent.

"I don't think so. We have other quality players," he insisted. "Fabregas came in and he did us a lot of good. Diego arrived, and he has scored a lot of goals for us.

"Last year, I was not alone, that would be a lack of respect to the others, but I was counted on more. Now, I'm not alone on the pitch. But when I play, Chelsea generally play well too.

"In France, other than in my last season, people always criticised me for not being decisive enough. Little-by-little, I'm starting to take that on.

"I'm decisive more often, especially in big matches. I'm continuing my progress. I have just turned 24 and I think I have already done quite a few good things in football. Now, I of course want to score more goals and provide more assists."
