Salvatore Sirigu's ability questioned by Chelsea keeper coach

Chelsea's goalkeeping coach has criticised Paris Saint-Germain No. 1 Salvatore Sirigu ahead of Tuesday's Champions League encounter, suggesting the Italian would not succeed in England.

Sirigu, 28, will be PSG's last line of defence when the French champions face Chelsea at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday.

After arriving in the French capital from Palermo in 2011 as a virtual unknown outside his native country, Sirigu has developed into one of Europe's foremost goalkeepers, and earned himself international recognition with Italy.

However, Christophe Lollichon told Journal du Dimanche that Sirigu does not have everything required to be a Premier League success.

"To play in France or the Champions League, he's great, but for England, he is lacking in coming for high balls," said Lollichon, who moved to Chelsea from Rennes in 2007 at the express wish of Petr Cech. "A goalkeeper that is good in England will be good everywhere, but the opposite is not true.

"There aren't many of them: [Manuel] Neuer, [Thibaut] Courtois, [David] De Gea, Cech. Sirigu, I don't see it, [but] he is a very good goalkeeper, and I like his personality: he seems to bring people together, he thinks about things. That could compensate."

Chelsea striker Diego Costa may be the biggest threat to Sirigu's goal as PSG seek to avenge last season's quarterfinal defeat to Jose Mourinho's men.

Brazil centre-back Thiago Silva, 30, told RMC that the Spain international has helped make the Premier League club better than they were 12 months ago when a late Demba Ba goal in the second leg at Stamford Bridge took the English side through on away goals.

"They're much better," he said. "A lot of good attacking players have arrived. Diego Costa is very good, he defends well, attacks very well, scores goals.

"A match like this motivates you a lot, especially when you play against a big team, a great coach. At home, at the Parc, we have to get a result because we need to go to London with a victory. It's possible, but it'll be very difficult."
