Rudi Garcia claims that he is disappointed not to face Sergio Aguero when Manchester City travel to Rome for the final Group E game of the Champions League. (1:09)

Manuel Pellegrini does not believe his job will be under threat if Manchester City fail to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The English champions need a win or score draw in their final game away to Roma on Wednesday to go through, and are also reliant on Bayern Munich doing them a favour against CSKA Moscow in the group's other game.

Even so, Pellegrini, who took City to the last 16 of the competition for the first time in their history last season, does not believe his position will come under scrutiny if City fail.

"I don't think so," the manager told a news conference. "It is a very important game and all of us want to qualify but I don't think that what happens will have some link about my future in the club.

"I have never received any kind of pressure from the club. I hope we are going to qualify but I have nothing to be [concerned] about my future here."

Their case has not been helped by the absence of Sergio Aguero through injury and the suspended Yaya Toure, but Stevan Jovetic -- who, along with captain Vincent Kompany and playmaker David Silva, is back in contention after injury -- is hoping to use his own Serie A history and experience to damage Roma, as he has in the past.

"I recall scoring a few goals against Roma, and in particular I remember a 2-1 win with Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico when I scored and set up the other. Certainly I'm going to try the same again tomorrow," Jovetic said on Tuesday. "I want to score tomorrow -- that's my duty."

However, Jovetic expects Adem Ljajic, his former Fiorentina teammate, to be looking to continue his excellent current form to ensure it is Roma who take their place in the last-16 draw.

"He's a big friend of mine and I know how good he is," Jovetic said. "To be honest, I expected him to have made the breakthrough a lot sooner than he has done, but things are going very well for him this season.

"I know his potential and in my opinion he's one of the best strikers in Italy."

Another is Francesco Totti, who recently said that Jovetic could be the man to take his No. 10 shirt when he eventually retires.

"I've heard about that and I'm honoured," Jovetic added. "I'm still only young, but if he says these things then it must mean I'm on the right track, but clearly I can't be compared with him."
