Jordan Henderson: Liverpool can beat Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu

Despite Wednesday's 3-0 Champions League defeat to the European champions, Liverpool will go to the Santiago Bernabeu convinced that they are capable of getting a result against Real Madrid, said Jordan Henderson.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema -- who struck a brace -- scored as Carlo Ancelotti's team eased to victory at Anfield and went six points clear at the top of Group B

But Henderson, 24, said Liverpool can reach Madrid's standards in next month's rematch and is adamant he and his teammates will be full of confidence going into the tie.

"We always believe we can get a result. No matter who we play," the Reds vice-captain is told Sky Sports.

"This Real Madrid team is top class with the best players in the world but that's who you want to be playing against and testing yourself, always trying to improve ourselves as a team.

"That's where we want to get to: to be a top team like Madrid playing at the highest level and I think we can do that."

Ronaldo, who never scored at Anfield as a Manchester United player, struck his 70th Champions League goal on Wednesday, meaning he is now only one behind Raul's record.

"For me, Ronaldo is the best player in the world," said Henderson. "Big players in big games do big things. Their first goal was top drawer, a top-class finish. Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition."

Henderson took heart from Liverpool's energetic start, saying: "In the first 20 minutes, we had a good tempo and created one or two things ourselves. For the first goal it was an outstanding finish. Again, the [other] goals were a bit sloppy on our behalf.

"From then on we struggled to really get going again until the second half, when we increased it and were a little bit better. After half-time we were playing for a bit of pride. We knew if we got a goal we could try to get back in the game. We had a few chances but couldn't put them away."
