Borussia Dortmund fans were attacked in Istanbul ahead of the Champions League match against Galatasaray on Wednesday evening, the club have confirmed.

Early on Wednesday morning, the Bundesliga club confirmed reports from BVB fanzine schwatzgelb.de of violent attacks against fans in Turkey.

"We understand that a small group was attacked, and two BVB fans needed to get outpatient treatment," Borussia Dortmund press director Sascha Fligge told ESPN FC. "The police arrested a handful of offenders, and confiscated one knife and one baton/iron bar. We have so far not received any feedback from other groups."

According to the Dortmund fanzine, the incidents happened in the quarters around Taksim square, where BVB fans gathered in pubs.

A video posted on YouTube showed one attacker brandishing a knife, while pictures on Twitter also appeared to confirm the attacks.
