Roma president James Pallotta says he is pleased with his side's Champions League group stage draw, saying his side have nothing to fear on their return to Europe's elite club competition.
Due to their absence from Europe's top table in recent years, Roma were only allocated a place in pot four for Thursday's draw in Monaco. That meant they risked drawing some of Europe's top sides, and that is precisely what happened.
They were allocated a place in Group E together with Manchester City, Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow.
"I don't think it's an unfortunate draw," said Pallotta to Sky Sport Italia. "Our opponents have got to play against us, remember, and so it's going to be hard for them too.
"At the end of the day, in the Champions League, you've got to play against the best, and try to beat them."
One of the most intriguing aspects of the draw is the return of Medhi Benatia to the Stadio Olimpico in a Bayern shirt. The Moroccan only completed his 26-million-euro move to the Bundesliga champions on Wednesday.
"It's going to be fun and the whole team cannot wait to face Benatia, but we've got to forget about the past and think about the present," Pallotta said, while playing up the Giallorossi's chances. "If you don't think you can win it, then you shouldn't even take part in the Champions League.
"Just look at Atletico Madrid last year. They played the way we want to play and they ended up within touching distance of the trophy. Roma deserve to be in this competition and we have a side which can reach any objective.
"Our aim is to reach the highest levels and we have a really strong side. We've resolved lots of problems and improved the squad, and we really can fight among the best sides in Europe."
