Feyenoord punished by UEFA

NYON, Switzerland -- UEFA has punished Feyenoord for racist behaviour by fans during a Champions League match against Besiktas of Turkey.

UEFA says the Netherlands club must close a section of their De Kuip stadium for the second leg of their Europa League playoff, and pay a fine of 45,000 euros.

Footage posted online appears to show Feyenoord fans chanting a religious insult at the visiting club during the July 30 match. Besiktas won 2-1 and later advanced to the play-off round.

UEFA says its disciplinary panel also charged Feyenoord with crowd disturbances after fans threw fireworks and missiles during the same match.

Feyenoord's sanction will be enforced when they host Ukraine's Zorya Luhansk next week.
