Wenger complains over bottle incident

Alexis Sanchez came inches from winning it for Arsenal in the 89th minute despite being a man down, but it ended in a scoreless draw.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has lodged a complaint with UEFA after a water bottle was thrown at him following his side's fiery 0-0 draw with Besiktas.

- Mangan: Gunners leave Turkey in precarious position
- Wenger: Ramsey red card 'unbelievable'

The incident came at the end of a heated Champions League playoff which had seen both Aaron Ramsey and Besiktas boss Slaven Bilic dismissed, while Demba Ba was lucky to stay on the pitch after a challenge which led to Mikel Arteta being forced off.

The bottle did not hit Wenger, but he was clearly unhappy after the final whistle. Wenger said: "As I left the pitch a bottle or something was thrown at me. I reported the incident to UEFA."

Bilic, meanwhile, could be forced to sit out the crucial return leg next Wednesday, with a place in the Champions League group stage at stake, after being sent to the stands by Serbian referee Milorad Mazic.

Mazic was heavily criticised by both managers following the stalemate following a string of controversial decisions.

"It was a big game for us, right, and I just wasn't happy with some of the decisions," Bilic said. "He [Mazic] just showed me the way [off]. After the game I apologised to him and to Mr Wenger. I made a mistake.

"Maybe I overreacted in that situation when he stopped the game when the ball hit [Mathieu] Flamini in the stomach and we were in a good position, two against one. But nothing serious happened in that moment or after the game.

"It's not my call [if banned by UEFA]. But I'm not used to this kind of situation. I had 60 or 70 games in charge of Croatia, but I think this is only the second time I've been asked out of the dug-out. I don't know the rules but I see no reason for me not to be in the dug-out in London, really."
