United wait on Rooney, Evans fitness
Manchester United are waiting to see whether Wayne Rooney will be fit enough to face Bayern Munich on Wednesday while Jonny Evans said it is "touch and go" if he will feature.
Rooney missed the 4-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday with a toe injury and while the striker is expected to fly to Germany, United are yet to reveal if he will feature in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal at the Allianz Arena.
Manager David Moyes is already without the injured Robin van Persie and the ineligible Juan Mata and, in Rooney’s absence, Javier Hernandez made just his fifth start of the league campaign at St James’ Park.
Meanwhile, centre-back Evans made his comeback for United reserves on Monday night.
The Northern Ireland international, who has been out for two months with a calf injury, played 66 minutes for United’s second-string side as they beat their Aston Villa counterparts 3-0.
The defender, who has not played for United’s first team since the 2-1 defeat to Stoke on Feb. 1, told MUTV, "It was fine. I'm a bit tender but nothing too serious."
He described himself as "touch and go" for the Bayern game but manager David Moyes has already been handed a defensive boost when Chris Smalling, who missed the first leg, returned at Newcastle.
Moyes rested Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who excelled against Bayern in the 1-1 draw in the first leg at Old Trafford last week, for the league match at the weekend.
