Klopp: Lewandowski yellow 'laughable'

Robert Lewandowski picked up a yellow card in Dortmund's Champions League match on Wednesday that will rule him out of the first leg of the quarterfinals. It's a decision Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp finds hard to believe.

During Dortmund's 2-1 defeat to Zenit in the last-16 second leg, Lewandowski jumped for a ball in the box and appeared to be pushed in the air. The ball then hit his arm, prompting the yellow card.

"The yellow card was laughable," Klopp said.

Dortmund will move on to the quarterfinals after a 5-4 aggregate victory over Zenit. They will learn their opponent in Friday's draw.

Zenit challenged Dortmund, with Hulk scoring from long distance in the 16th minute before Sebastian Kehl's goal 20 minutes later gave Dortmund breathing room.

"That wasn't a perfect game, but we're through," said Lewandowski. "We know that we can play better than that."

Klopp credited his team for not taking Zenit lightly.

"Anyone who works in football knows that Zenit aren't push-overs and the creme de la creme of European football now awaits us in the quarterfinals," said Klopp.

Andre Villas-Boas will take charge of Zenit on Thursday, following the sacking of Luciano Spalletti, and that means the match was caretaker coach Sergei Semak's final game in charge.

"It was a huge task for us to come here and score three goals and unfortunately we didn't make it," said Semak.

"I have to congratulate my team on a good performance, the boys did the best they could do."
