Jese suffers torn ACL; season over

Jese is facing a long spell on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee during Real Madrid's 3-1 victory over Schalke in the Champions League.

Jese was stretchered off injured in the first half against Schalke.

Train: Jese KO a bitter pill

The 21-year-old faces a lengthy injury lay-off after he was stretchered off after just five minutes of the last 16 clash at the Bernabeu, going down after a challenge from Sead Kolasinac.

Gareth Bale replaced Jese and played a part in all three goals as Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed two and Alvaro Morata one. Real eventually ran out 9-2 winners on aggregate.

Real Madrid confirmed the extent of the injury hours after the game, with a story saying: "After undergoing a scan and imaging test in the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital, our player Jese Rodríguez has been diagnosed with a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee."

The player tweeted his gratitude to all his well-wishers after the game, saying: "Thanks with all my heart to all of you for your messages of support."

After the match Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti told his news conference that he could sympathise with his young forward's situation.

"We have been unlucky with the injury to Jese," he said. "The season is over for him. He had been playing so well in his first season with the first team.

"I had the same injury at a young age and I was able to go on and have a career. He will return. After his injury he will remain important for Real Madrid. We will wait for him. We wish him support and best of luck.

"In football these things arrive and you must take them on. You must be positive. We have lost someone very important. He has given us a lot this year, above all when Cristiano was not there. He has surprised. These things happen in a career. He has not had the luck. Neither has Real Madrid. But that is football. We will stick close close to him."

Jese has scored five goals in 18 La Liga games this season, and has set up a further four goals.
