Robinho may miss Atletico clash

AC Milan may have to play the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Atletico Madrid without Robinho.

Robinho appears unlikely to be available for the first leg against Atletico Madrid.

Paul: Mario upset as Milan lose

Robinho, who has started all four Serie A games since Clarence Seedorf took charge, was substituted at halftime of the 3-1 defeat to Napoli on Saturday evening.

The Rossoneri have now announced in a statement on their official website that the Brazilian had “sustained a muscular problem to the adductor longus muscle of his left thigh” and will undergo further tests in a week’s time.

With Milan set to face Atletico on Wednesday, Feb. 19, the 30-year-old former Real Madrid and Manchester City forward has effectively been ruled out of that San Siro clash. Seedorf will have the opportunity to test a different option in the Serie A clash with Bologna on Friday night.

Losing Robinho is little in comparison to the injury troubles Atletico are currently facing, however. No fewer than three key players are rated doubtful for the trip to Milan, a game which is assuming an even greater importance in both sides' seasons.

While Milan are focusing all of their efforts on the Champions League, with their chances of qualifying for the competition via Serie A looking remote, Atletico are in need of a confidence booster after drawing two and losing one of their last five Primera Division matches.
