Franck Ribery to miss Arsenal trip

Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery has been ruled out of the Champions League last-16 first leg against Arsenal.

Ribery is recovering from surgery on a gluteal muscle.

Schaaf: Comfortable winners

Ribery, 30, has been described as being in "a good way" after undergoing an operation to repair a blood vessel in his buttock last Thursday, but will not return to action in time for the Emirates Stadium clash on Feb. 19.

The France international, who missed Saturday's 2-0 win at Nurnberg, underwent an examination on Monday, and Bayern doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt informed the club that the player is recovering well after the surgery.

The Treble holders hope that Ribery -- who made the three-man shortlist for the 2013 Ballon d'Or and came third -- will recover in time to begin movement therapy by the end of the week and then return to individual training a week later.

"Ribery will miss the next games of the champions, among them the last-16 tie in the Champions League at Arsenal," a statement on the club's official website read.

Ribery should be fit in time for the second leg against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on March 11.

The two clubs met at the same stage of the competition last season, with Bayern triumphing on away goals.
