Olympiakos boss thrilled to face United

Olympiakos coach Michel is thrilled to have been drawn against Manchester United in the Champions League.

Mitten: Welbeck’s chance to shine
Okwonga: Grand day out at Villa Park

Olympiakos finished second in Group C, edging ahead of Benfica on goal difference, to book their place in the knockout rounds of the competition.

They will take on Group A winners United as they look to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 1998-99, but former Getafe and Sevilla boss Michel is relishing the chance to take on the three-time European champions.

“We are very pleased to be part of this draw,” he told his club’s official website. “There is nothing bigger to ask for. We know what is happening right now. It will be a huge celebration for football, our fans, the club and the people of Piraeus.

“As I have said, being here to play against Manchester United, such a historic club for world football, is something that we all deserve and nobody may take away from us the right to dream and aspire to do things the way we should.”

Olympiakos captain Avraam Papadopoulos added on the club’s official TV channel that it was a “difficult draw” but added: “I think that getting to this point is a huge success in its own right. We want to enjoy what future holds for us and to give our best. I believe that our side has got potential. We see that the side is continuously improving.”
