An Ajax supporter who fell five metres from a stand in the Amsterdam ArenA following the club’s second goal against Barcelona on Tuesday remains in intensive care.
The Eredivisie side’s 2-1 Champions League victory against Barca was overshadowed by the accident that took place after Danny Hoesen’s first-half strike.
According to De Telegraaf, the young man fell from one of the stands inside Ajax’s stadium before crashing onto the ground.
The fan was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by a helicopter and, while surviving the fall, suffered severe head injuries and is currently in intensive care.
An Amsterdam police spokesman confirmed that the man’s condition remains critical, De Telegraaf reports.
The victory against Barcelona keeps alive Ajax’s chances of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League, with Frank de Boer’s side needing to win at AC Milan on Dec. 11.
