Julian Green has been named in the Bayern Munich squad for the Champions League game at CSKA Moscow on Wednesday.
Green, 18, has yet to make his competitive debut for the Bundesliga champions but has enjoyed a successful season in the reserves, scoring 15 goals in 18 games.
The American-born player only recently signed his first professional Munich contract, committing himself to the club until 2017, and sporting director Matthias Sammer said he "has what it takes to make it in the professional game."
He replaces the injured Mario Mandzukic in the squad for the CSKA Moscow clash, and could be handed a debut by coach Pep Guardiola.
Green, born in Florida to an American father and a German mother, has been described as "a tremendous talent" by USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
But he has not made up his mind whether he should dedicated his international future to the USA or Germany, telling Bild: "That issue is not settled."
