Casillas: I don't know what future holds

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has said speculation he could leave the club in January has come about because people do not listen closely to what he says -- but also suggested he did not know what the future held.

• Train: Draw in Turin has feel of victory for Real

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is rotating his goalkeepers, with club captain Casillas playing in the cup competitions and Diego Lopez in La Liga.

That has given rise to reports that Spain international Casillas was considering leaving in January to ensure he was in top form for the World Cup, with Manchester City and Arsenal among the clubs thought to be monitoring the situation.

After starring in Wednesday’s 2-2 Champions League group draw at Juventus, Casillas, whose current contract runs until 2017, told El Larguero his plan was to remain at the Bernabeu for many seasons.

"There are people who like to misinterpret my words," he said. "My idea is to stay at Real Madrid in January, to stay at Real Madrid in June and to stay at Real Madrid until my contract ends.

"But I do not have any idea what can happen in one year, or two or three. I am very relaxed about what I say, even if some people do not listen to me properly."

The 2010 World Cup winner admitted that it was not ideal to only be playing every couple of weeks, but said his intention was to persuade Ancelotti to start him in every game.

"It is very difficult, as I have said before," he said. "There are others [out of the team] also, and we need to see it as a challenge and try and compete and play more. I will continue to fight to make it difficult for the coach.

"I am ready for whenever the coach and my teammates need me. Of course if I was playing more regularly I would be better, but I have to take advantage of the chances I get."

Casillas made two outstanding saves in the first half at Juventus, but after the visitors had responded to Arturo Vidal's penalty with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, he was blamed in some quarters for hesitating as Fernando Llorente equalised late on.

But he said he and his colleagues were contented with the result, which all but secures their passage through to the last 16.

"We are happy as we know there are two games left to play, and we know we are qualified barring a disaster," he added.
