Fernando Torres gets treatment before going off injured at Steaua
Fernando Torres went down after just 36 seconds in Bucharest.

News that Torres had seen a four-match Premier League ban rescinded on Tuesday was tempered by the injury, which occurred just 36 seconds into the UEFA Champions League match against Steaua Bucuresti in Romania. However, the 29-year-old underwent a scan at Chelsea's Cobham training base and the extent of the damage has now been revealed.

A statement published on Chelsea's official website read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm Fernando Torres suffered a medial collateral ligament injury to his left knee in the Champions League group game at Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday evening. The 29-year-old will be out for approximately three weeks."

Chelsea went on to beat Steaua Bucuresti 4-0 to get their Champions League campaign up and running following the opening day defeat to Basel. The Swiss side lost 1-0 at home to Schalke on Tuesday.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had expressed his hope that Torres would be fit for the Premier League contest with Cardiff on October 19, but that may come slightly too soon.
