FIFA considering merging men's, women's U17, U20 World Cups

England might be the first and last team to be holders of the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups.

FIFA is looking to merge the tournaments won last year by English youth players to create a 48-team competition, emulating the expansion of the main World Cup. Officials are exploring the merits of an age cut-off at 18 or 19.

KOLKATA, India -- An expanded Club World Cup could replace the Confederations Cup as part of a revised calendar that FIFA will examine, president Gianni Infantino says.

Infantino told reporters after a FIFA council meeting on Friday that both club and international competitions will be reviewed as part of a revised calendar that FIFA will consider at their next council meeting in March.

Tottenham's Josh Onomah dedicates U20 World Cup win to Ugo Ehiogu

Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah has dedicated England's Under-20 World Cup win to his former coach Ugo Ehiogu, who died in April.

Ehiogu, Tottenham's U23 coach, passed away in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at the club's training ground and Onomah, 20, paid tribute to the former England defender at the time, describing him as a "father figure" and promising to make him proud.

Liverpool-bound Dominic Solanke wins Under-20 World Cup Golden Ball

England have won their first major trophy since 1966, after Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Venezuela.

Liverpool-bound striker Dominic Solanke was named Under-20 World Cup Golden Ball winner after his performances in England's triumphant tournament.

Solanke, 19, scored four goals to help England clinch glory in South Korea, with Paul Simpson's side beating Venezuela 1-0 in the final on Sunday.

Solanke was rewarded for his performances with the Golden Ball, joining Manchester United's Paul Pogba, Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Argentina legend Diego Maradona in winning the prize.
