Roberto Mancini leaves Galatasaray

Roberto Mancini arrived at the club in September 2013.

Roberto Mancini has parted company with Galatasaray by mutual consent, the club have confirmed.

Mancini arrived in Instanbul in September 2013, before leading the side to Turkish Cup glory, as well as second spot in the Super Lig and a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

However, following speculation that the Italian was looking to leave the club, Galatasaray announced his departure on their official website on Wednesday.

Mancini, who had two years remaining on his contract with the Turkish outfit, has been linked with a return to former club Lazio.

Current Biancocelesti boss Edy Reja looks set to leave after a disappointing season that saw his side finish eighth in Serie A.

Mancini has also managed Fiorentina and Inter Milan in his native country, guiding the Nerazzurri to three Serie A titles.

The Italian then moved to Manchester City in 2009, but despite securing the club's first ever title of the Premier League era, he was sacked in 2012.

"I've decided to end my experience with Galatasarary," Mancini told Italy's ANSA agency.

"With the club, we have mutually reached the agreement to terminate our collaboration. As a coach, I can understand the demands of my club. When I accepted the role as Gala coach, the objectives were different.

"In these eight months, despite starting off with the season already partly compromised, I did my job, spurred on by the passion and the constant search for wins, and ending in qualification for the [knockout stages of the] Champions League, winning the Turkish Cup and finishing second in the league.

"I'm sorry to leave Istanbul and its fans, both of which are fantastic. My warm wishes go to the president, the team and all of my colleagues, who worked expertly and honestly."
