Turkish derby abandoned by violence
The Turkish Super Lig derby between giants Galatasaray and Besiktas was abandoned on Sunday night after supporters from both sides stormed the pitch in injury time.
Violence erupted in the 92nd minute after Gala midfielder Felipe Melo was sent off as hundreds of fans ran onto the ground and began hurling objects.
Images from the match show security guards at the Istanbul Ataturk Olympic Stadium being attacked with chairs as players and officials from the two teams fled for safety.
Reports in the Turkish media suggest the havoc started after clashes between Besiktas fans and riot police inside the stadium, although the Turkey Football Federation will deliver their verdict in the coming days.
Prior to the match being abandoned, Didier Drogba's brace led Gala from a goal down and Fatih Terim's side looked certain to inflict Besiktas' first loss of the season.
