Khazri bemoans 'grotesque errors' that cost Tunisia vs. Belgium

Wahbi Khazri believes that Tunisia only have themselves to blame after their 5-2 capitulation by Belgium in Moscow on Saturday.

The Eagles of Carthage were thoroughly outclassed by the Red Devils in their second group game, having been beaten 2-1 by England in their opener.

Khazri, who netted late for the North Africans and contributed the assist for their opener, was a rare ray of light for Nabil Maaloul's side, who were fortunate not to concede more after a hapless defensive display.

"We handicapped ourselves because when we were in the match, and when we had the ball, we lost it, and that's what cost us the goals," Khazri told journalists, as per L'Equipe.

"We tried to give our maximum, but against players like that, it you commit errors, you'll pay hard," he added. "They're very talented, and they're playing in the Champions League.

"It showed us the work we need to do to try and compete," Khazri added. "They're very great players, and a great team.

"We gave everything, but we committed errors too grotesque to really compete with them."

Tunisia, who will be eliminated if England beat Panama on Sunday, finish their World Cup campaign against the Central Americans in Saransk on June 2018.

After a miserable campaign, the Eagles of Carthage could at least break their 13-game winless streak at the World Cup and pick up their first victory since 1978.

"I hope to finish the tournament well," Khazri concluded, "because we deserve it despite these two defeats.

"We've met two teams who were at too high a level for us, and now, we have to rest and finish on a strong note."
