Tottenham's club-record signing Davinson Sanchez extends deal to 2024
Tottenham's club-record signing Davinson Sanchez has signed a new contract through 2024.
The centre-back, 21, moved from Ajax last August for a reported £42 million and went on to become a mainstay at the heart of the Spurs defence.
Sanchez, named in Colombia's World Cup squad, made 41 appearances in all competitions this season as Mauricio Pochettino's men secured third place in the Premier League.
A brief statement on Spurs' official Twitter feed read: "We are delighted to announce that Davinson Sanchez has signed a new contract with the club, which will run until 2024.''
The news follows on from confirmation of a new deal for defender Kyle Walker-Peters.
The 21-year-old full-back has penned a new deal which will run until at least 2021.
The future of manager Pochettino, though, remains a subject for debate. The Argentine is set to meet with chairman Daniel Levy for talks over his future.
Following Sunday's season-ending 5-4 Premier League win over Leicester at Wembley, Pochettino said Spurs must "take risks'' to win top trophies.
The former Southampton manager again refused to give any guarantees he would be Tottenham boss for the start of next season.
Pochettino, 46, has been linked with both Real Madrid and Chelsea, should those clubs look to change their manager over the summer.
Sanchez paid tribute to the work of Pochettino for helping him develop his game during a first campaign in English football.
"I've enjoyed it so much this season because I have quality teammates, I have quality staff guiding me and I have a quality training ground to work at,'' Sanchez said on Tottenham's official website.
"I've learned so much from everyone, not just from the other centre-backs like Jan [Vertonghen], like Toby [Alderweireld], Juan [Foyth], and also Victor [Wanyama] and Eric Dier when they play in this position, but I pick up things from every player and of course from the gaffer [Pochettino].
"He was a defender, he's shown me a lot of videos on how to improve and I can say OK, the gaffer is close to me because every time he tries to show me the best way to play, I try to do what he is thinking.
"For me, Tottenham was a big step, but now I enjoy everything.''
