Tottenham defender Danny Rose likely to sit out August action - source

Tottenham Hotspur will not rush left-back Danny Rose back into action, a source has told ESPN FC, with the Manchester United target not expected to play again before the end of the month.

Both United and Inter Milan are interested in Rose, but Spurs have yet to receive a bid and say he is not for sale.

Rose is doing strengthening work following knee surgery in May and is unlikely to return until after the international break, ruling him out of Premier League games against Newcastle, Chelsea and Burnley.

The 27-year-old England international has not played since January, despite having returned to light training towards the end of last season.

His fitness concerns further reduce the chances of a summer exit from Tottenham, who have already sold England right-back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for around £50 million.

Meanwhile, Spurs are still waiting for confirmation of the extent of the ankle injury Kieran Trippier suffered against Juventus at Wembley on Saturday, with manager Mauricio Pochettino expected to provide an update on Wednesday.

Trippier left Wembley on crutches, wearing a protective boot on his right foot, but Spurs sources say they are optimistic that the injury is not too serious.

There was significant swelling, however, meaning that he is unlikely to play at Newcastle on Sunday.

Erik Lamela, meanwhile, is still recovering from double hip surgery, having not played since October.
