LEICESTER -- Tottenham striker Harry Kane has targeted reaching 100 Premier League goals by the end of next season, and says he can make a fast start next year after a rare summer off.
Kane scored four times, a career first, in Thursday's 6-1 hammering of Leicester City to move onto 26 goals for the season -- two ahead of Everton's Romelu Lukaku in the race for the Golden Boot, with one match to play.
The 23-year-old won last season's Golden Boot with 25 goals and he is just the fifth player in Premier League history to score 25 or more goals in consecutive seasons after Robbie Fowler, Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and Alan Shearer.
Kane moved to 75 Premier League goals in 115 appearances and he has targeted a century by the end of next season, starting in Sunday's season finale at relegated Hull City.
"It would be great if I could join that 100 club by the end of next season. I'm on 75 now and to get 100 would be a fantastic achievement," he told reporters.
"Going into the Leicester game two behind, I was hoping to get one or two and keep myself in the race for Sunday so to get four and win 6-1 -- I couldn't have dreamed of it."
A slow start followed by an ankle injury meant Kane started November with just one league goal to his name, while in 2015-16 he did not score in the first six league games.
The England striker is set for his first summer without an international tournament in three years after competing in the Under-21 European Championship followed by last year's senior tournament in France.
He hopes to hit the ground running next season but said that England's World Cup qualifier in Scotland on June 10, followed by the friendly in France three days later, means he will not have a full summer off again.
"The first three games I didn't score but then I went on a good run," he said. "I am proud of the fact that even though I've had two injuries this year, out for 11 weeks, I am still up there at the top of the Premier League. To score 30 plus goals again [in all competitions] is a big achievement for me and one I'm very proud of. Next season hopefully I can get going in that first game, get a couple and go from there. If not I will stay calm and see what happens.
"The England games are right in the middle of June so I still don't get a whole summer but it is what it is. It's more than I've had in the past so I will make the most of it. Getting away is not so much a physical rest as a mental one. I will keep myself fit and mentally have a good break on the beach, just chill."
Kane also spared a thought for Lukaku, who started Thursday two clear at the top of the scoring charts but will need to score at least a hat trick at Arsenal on the final day to have a chance to beating Kane to the Golden Boot.
"I'm sure he is not too happy but there is one game to go and I'm sure he'll be determined to try to score a hat trick on Sunday. They have a tough game against Arsenal. There is still one more game. We have to play Hull away and I will be looking for a couple of goals there. it is all to play for but I couldn't have dreamed of scoring four," he said.
"I've had my eye on it from the start. I had a go at Son [Heung-Min, who scored Spurs' other two goals], the first couple of shots he should probably have passed to me but he set up my first one and it was nice to score. I wanted one or two tonight to take it to the last game, so to score those at the end made it the perfect night."
