Tottenham's White Hart Lane finale vs. Man United 'perfect' - Pochettino

LONDON -- Mauricio Pochettino says Sunday's 2-1 win against Manchester United at White Hart Lane will always be his lasting memory of the stadium, describing the afternoon as "perfect."

Goals from Victor Wanyama and Harry Kane ensured victory in Spurs' last-ever match at their home since 1899 and the final whistle was greeted by a pitch invasion by some of the 31,500 supporters inside the stadium for the final time.

After the game, a closing ceremony displayed a video of the story of White Hart Lane and 48 club legends were paraded on the pitch under a rainbow and confetti as the club said an emotional goodbye to their home.

"It was a very emotional game and emotional ceremony. It's so difficult to speak about it and to describe it. I think I am very lucky guy because to share the history of such a club in that special moment is so lucky to be here," Pochettino told a postmatch news conference.

"I am so happy. I want to congratulate all and to say thank you to all the players, the fans, the staff and my staff. Because all together we worked so hard together to achieve all that we have achieved this season."

Pochettino, whose team secured a second place finish -- their highest-ever in the Premier League, added: "I'm really sad, disappointed, because Chelsea in the end won the Premier League but there is nothing to regret.

"I'm very, very happy with the performance of all the players. For now it is to say to the fans and everyone that we will give our best and try to fight again next season to try to win the league."

Asked for his abiding memory of the stadium, Pochettino said: "Now it will always be the last day. For me, it was a very exciting day. It was perfect. the preparation of the game, the game -- we played well, got three points -- and then at the end the ceremony was perfect to share with the people, the staff, the fans, was perfect.

"For me the most special day will be the last day at White Hart Lane."

Harry Kane said he was thrilled to score what proved to be the last winning goal at White Hart Lane.

Victor Wanyama headed the hosts into an early lead and Kane added a second after the break, before Wayne Rooney scored the last goal at the ground.

Kane told Sky Sports: "What a way to finish. We wanted to win so badly in our last game. [I'd thought before the game that] to score the winning goal or something like that would be special, and for it to happen is just amazing.

"We're disappointed after losing out on the title again, but we're growing and getting better. Third, second and hopefully next season we'll be No. 1."

While Tottenham remained unbeaten at White Hart Lane this term, they won just one of their five games at Wembley -- their home next season -- in the current campaign.

Midfielder Dele Alli said: "You hear a lot about it not really being good for us, but I think what happened in the Champions League was not down to Wembley -- it was down to our own performance. We know that.

"It's an unbelievable stadium and we just have to make sure we feel comfortable there. We've got to make sure next season it's going to be our home for the year so we've got to make it as much of a fortress as White Hart Lane has been."
