LONDON -- Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said the club will retain the "soul" of White Hart Lane at their new home.
Spurs will say goodbye to the Lane, their home since 1899, when they host Manchester United on Sunday.
Demolition work will start on Monday and Spurs will play next season's home matches at Wembley before moving into their new 61,500-seater stadium, next door to White Hart Lane, for the 2018-19 campaign.
London rivals Arsenal and West Ham both experienced significant teething problems after moving, but Pochettino believes staying so close to their old home will help Spurs.
"Everyone is excited to welcome the new stadium, and soul and the smell of White Hart Lane will stay there," he said.
"With the new era and stadium arrive different expectations, but most important is that White Hart Lane is always in our memory.
"You can knock down a stadium, move to another area, but it's difficult because your habit is to take the same route, go to the same shops.
"But now we are changing nothing because the new stadium will be in the same place as White Hart Lane. It's fantastic for us."
Pochettino said Sunday's farewell "will be special for our fans, all the staff, the players, and the people who love Tottenham."
He recalled playing for Espanyol in the last-ever match the Sarria Stadium -- a 3-2 win over Valencia -- in June 1997, saying they had gone on to win two Copa del Reys in their temporary home at Barcelona's Olympic Stadium.
And he said there was no reason why Spurs could not win next season's Premier League title at Wembley, despite their poor results at the national stadium in European competition this season.
"We left because Espanyol had very big financial problems," he said. "But it's true that we spent 12 years at the Olympic Stadium and we were capable of winning two Copa Del Reys, in 2000 and 2006. It was fantastic.
"Why not win some titles or trophies at Wembley?"
He said Spurs were "thinking about how we can improve and learn from the last three seasons," adding: "We are so ambitious and always want to improve.
"We are building step by step for our future. We are preparing for the next season in all the areas we need to improve, and we believe we can improve and be stronger."
