Tottenham striker Harry Kane to return against Watford after injury layoff

LONDON -- Harry Kane will return from injury in Saturday's Premier League match against Watford, but Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has not decided whether the striker will start.

Kane has been missing since suffering ankle ligament damage in the FA Cup win over Millwall last month and was initially expected to miss around six weeks.

But he returned to full training early this week and Pochettino told a news conference on Friday: "We'll see tomorrow if he can start the game or be on the bench. He's ready, he feels good. He has made a full recovery.

"He's special, he has pushed himself a lot to a full recovery to be 100 percent. The good news is he is back.

"He is always desperate to play. He is always pushing you to train, to play, to score goals. His character is unbelievable."

A win against Watford in the early kickoff would move Spurs to within four points of Chelsea, who travel to Bournemouth in the evening.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte claimed it was more "normal" for Chelsea to win than Tottenham, but Pochettino said: "When you're seven points above the second team in the table, it's normal in the end to win the league.

"Now it's up to them to win the league.

"We're in a position where we need to do our job -- winning games, putting pressure on. If they don't win the Premier League, it will be tough for them to accept.

"We're in a different project, a different club. Our history at Tottenham is massive -- it's bigger than many, many clubs in England. We need to rebuild that history and rebuild that winning mentality.

"But the mentality here from when we arrived has improved every season, every single day."

Although Kane is returning, Pochettino has concerns at the other end of the pitch, with backup goalkeeper Michel Vorm suffering a knee injury in the win at Swansea on Wednesday.

Vorm will have a scan on Friday but he is expected to miss out, while Hugo Lloris is still recovering from the food poisoning that ruled him out at the Liberty Stadium.

It means 21-year-old Pau Lopez, on loan from Espanyol, is in line for a debut and Pochettino said he was "ready to compete."

The coach added: "We need to decide tomorrow who is available to play.

"He's very young, but he is here because we believe and trust in him. If Hugo and Michel aren't ready he can cope with the pressure of playing, no problem."
