Tottenham's Erik Lamela: Operation on my hip injury 'went well'

Tottenham Hotspur forward Erik Lamela says surgery on a persistent hip problem "went well" after he went under the knife in Barcelona on Saturday.

Tottenham have already confirmed that Lamela, who has not featured since October, will play no further part this season and the club have not put a timeframe on the Argentina international's return to training.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino described surgery as a "last resort" on Thursday, while Lamela has said he "tried everything" to get fit.

Since he last played, Lamela has spent time in his home city of Buenos Aires on compassionate leave after his brother was seriously injured in a domestic accident and in Rome, where the Tottenham winger was treated for the hip problem at his former club Roma.

Pochettino rejected suggestions that Lamela was thinking about leaving Tottenham on Thursday, saying it was "impossible" that he could move clubs while he is injured.

"All that he is suffering in the last four or five months -- do you think that he is thinking to move? That he is thinking to go to Italy? He is very happy here," Pochettino said.

"The problems he has are problems and he was desperate, and the club was desperate, to find the solution. But that made me laugh, every time I heard all that in the media. Because it is impossible for him, impossible for the club, impossible for his agent, impossible for his people, to think about moving. Where?

"Now he needs help and who better than us to help him in the next few months? I think you know better than me that it does not make sense."
