Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino: We can still fight for title

BURNLEY, England -- Mauricio Pochettino has said he believes Tottenham Hotspur can win the Premier League title after Saturday's 2-0 victory at Burnley.

The win cut the gap on leaders Chelsea to seven points after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Crystal Palace.

Spurs travel to struggling Swansea on Wednesday, while Chelsea host fourth-placed Manchester City.

And Pochettino told reporters: "I am very happy, very pleased. It's important, a massive three points for us to still believe we can fight for the title.

"We showed great belief, character and faith. It is always difficult in the first game after international duty, all the players arrive at different dates, but we were very professional. That makes us proud."

Spurs lost central midfielders Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks to injuries in a dour first half, and Pochettino switched formation at half-time from a 3-4-2-1 system to the 4-2-3-1 he used for the majority of last season.

"It's true, in the first half it was difficult to play in the way we normally play but throughout the second half we dominated the game and created chances," he said.

"We fully deserved the three points. Maybe it was not brilliant, but it was very professional.

"It's always a difficult place to play, Burnley. Many teams struggle to get a good result. But for to analyse the game after 90 minutes, we fully deserved this result."

Winks was taken to hospital with suspected ankle ligament damage after a collision at the end of the first half but was able to return to the stadium on crutches and travelled back to London with his teammates.

"Now we need to wait for the scan," Pochettino said. "We hope it is not a big issue. It's his ankle, he twisted his ankle."

Meanwhile, Wanyama told reporters he was "fine" as he made his way out of the stadium.
