Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane: I should have had hat trick vs. Everton

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has said he should have had a hat trick after scoring twice to help his side to a 3-2 home win over Everton.

Kane swerved in a long-range strike to give Spurs the lead before the break and added a second with a low finish after the interval.

Dele Alli's late third secured the points for Mauricio Pochettino's side, who cut the gap on leaders Chelsea to seven points.

Kane told Sky Sports: "I wanted that third goal, and I had chances which I should have scored.

"It would have been another matchball for me, but we are delighted with the win.

"I feel sharp, fitter than ever, and I need to keep it going. Every time I go out there I want to score goals."

Everton made life anxious for Tottenham when Romelu Lukaku made it it 2-1 with 10 minutes remaining, and pulled another back through Enner Valencia to trail 3-2 with a minute of stoppage time to go.

Kane said: "We played very well today and controlled the game, and then all of a sudden it was a nervy end.

"It's an important win -- we should have won by more, but it's another step closer to the top of the table.

"We want West Ham to win against Chelsea tomorrow, and we don't normally say that."

Alli said Everton were "a tough team to beat home and away."

He added: "They hold a real threat, but I thought we dominated the game until the last 10 minutes where we got a bit shaky.

"All round it was a good performance from us. I think it's important we focus on ourselves and keep winning games."

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said he was "very happy" with the performance and hailed Kane as "one of the best."

"He had a good game, he was fantastic. He deserves all the praise," he added.

"The most important thing is to show the belief on the pitch, and today I think we showed that. It's up to us to be ready if they [Chelsea] fail."
