Harry Kane could stay for life after signing new Tottenham deal - King

Ledley King has told ESPN FC that Harry Kane could stay at Tottenham Hotspur for life after the striker agreed a new contract with the club until 2022.

Kane, 22, has signed his second long-term deal this year to end speculation linking with him with a move away from White Hart Lane.

Like Kane, King graduated from Spurs' academy, and the ex-defender believes the England striker could follow in his footsteps by spending his whole career at the club.

"He could be a one-club man," King, speaking ahead of the official opening of William Hill's Spurs shop, told ESPN FC. "The club are progressing, going in the right direction and, while they're doing that, Harry will be happy, but you can never talk for someone else.

"I was someone who loved playing here, I had great relationship with the fans and that was important to me. I'm sure Harry feels the same way. If the club are playing at the highest level, trying to win trophies and the league, there is nowhere else to go."

Kane has scored 18 goals in 23 London derbies and has hit five Premier League strikes against both Arsenal and West Ham -- Tottenham's two closest local rivals.

King believes Kane's connection to the club gives him an edge at big moments.

"It's something you can't buy," he said. "He's worked his way up through the academy. It's difficult to put into words how it works, or what it means. It's a connection, a fire within you that means you're willing to go the extra yard.

"The players that come through the youth teams are often from the local area and have family members and friends who are supporters. Often after the games you need to look them in the eye and that plays a part in why you leave everything on the pitch."

Last month there were reports that contract talks between Kane and the club had stalled because the striker was demanding more than £100,000-a-week -- above the strict wage structure enforced by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

But King said: "Everyone was confident it would get sorted, knowing the type of person Harry is, knowing he is enjoying his football here. Everything is in place in terms of the squad, the coaches, the new stadium plans -- it's a great place to be. I certainly felt confident it would all get sorted out in the right time and it has. It'll give everyone a real lift for the remainder of the season.

"He's a top-class player -- the Premier League top scorer last season, he is at the top of his game, a great age. There would have been plenty of clubs very interested in him but he is ours for now and we're very happy with him."
