Hugo Lloris puts contract talks on hold as Tottenham face two big matches

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is willing to put his desire for a new contract on the backburner in order to concentrate on a vital run of fixtures.

Lloris, a key performer for Spurs, is keen to remain at White Hart Lane beyond the expiry of his current deal in 2019, but the club are reportedly unwilling to meet his wage demands.

That has left negotiations at a stalemate and the France international wants to put talks on hold ahead of a Champions League clash with Monaco and a Premier League trip to Chelsea on Saturday.

"There are times during a season when as a player you have to think about yourself and there are times when you have to think about the team -- and this is one of those times when it is more important to be focused on the team," he told reporters.

"I don't think this is the right moment to talk about my contract, but I want to repeat my commitment is to the club and there is no rush.

"I am under contract until 2019 and I enjoy a great relationship with [manager] Mauricio Pochettino, [chairman] Daniel Levy and, of course, the fans, so there is no need for anybody to worry.

"There is nothing to worry about. I don't think this is the right moment to talk about [my contract]. But I want to repeat my commitment is to the club and there is no rush.

"We will see what will happen, but at the moment I am focused only on Monaco and the other important matches coming up because it is a busy time of the year."

Spurs are also trying to tie Harry Kane to a new contract, with the star striker insisting he wants to stay at the club for "a long, long time."

Spurs realistically need to beat Monaco if they are to reach the Champions League knockout rounds. Pochettino's men trail Monaco by four points and second-placed Bayer Leverkusen by two, following successive home defeats at Wembley.
