Tottenham's Kevin Wimmer pleased to be back in team despite own goal

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer was delighted with his first Premier League appearance of the season, despite scoring an own goal in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

Before the Emirates Stadium clash, Wimmer, 23, had only featured in the EFL Cup matches against Gillingham and Liverpool this season, and last month he admitted he was "down on expectations" after finding himself frequently left out of Tottenham's matchday squads.

Spurs were winless in six matches going into the North London derby and, although they had to settle for a fourth straight league draw, they looked more likely to win the game in the second half after Harry Kane's penalty had cancelled out Wimmer's own goal.

"We've tried to turn things around after recent games and we did well," Wimmer told the club's official website. "For me, it's always a good feeling to be in the starting XI, especially a game like this. I always try to give my best and we all wanted to win.

"Obviously to score an own goal is a bad feeling. At first, you are disappointed but once the game gets started again you just want to turn it around. That's certainly my mentality.

"It was a typical derby, lots of intensity and everyone tried their best. We tried to get the three points and we were unlucky. We obviously got the draw, but we now have some time until the next game and I think we've turned the corner. We're moving in the right direction and everyone believes we can continue to improve."
