Tottenham's Vincent Janssen ready to fill in for striker Harry Kane

LONDON -- Tottenham Hotspur's Vincent Janssen believes Harry Kane is "one of the best strikers in the world" but says he is ready to replace his injured teammate.

Kane damaged his ankle ligaments in the 1-0 win over Sunderland at the weekend and, although Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino refused to put a timeframe on his return, it is reported he will be sidelined for at least six weeks.

Summer signing Janssen, who joined Spurs for £17 million from AZ Alkmaar, is the club's only other senior forward and he opened his Tottenham account with a penalty in Wednesday's 5-0 win over Gillingham in the EFL Cup.

"It is nice to get the first goal but it's not the most important thing because I have enough confidence. If I hadn't scored yesterday, for me it was sure I would score in the next game. It was nice to score the first one but it was not such a big issue," Janssen told reporters after the match.

"I am ready to play. I feel bad for Harry but if he is fit I want to play with him. He's a very good player. We played some games together and it went very well. He has a lot of qualities -- he is one of the best strikers in the world, so it is nice to play together with him. I can learn a lot from him but in the end I want to play a lot with him. It is nice that he is here.

"I have been here now for a lot of weeks. I had the preseason here and the manager gave me chances. It is nice to get minutes and I am happy I will get a chance to do that.

"England is more physical football and you know that when you come here there are a lot of players who like to play this [physical] game. I like it also, so it not problem and I just have to adapt and it goes very well.

"That's the way I want to play. Of course, I could have scored more goals that's for sure but I am happy I scored one. I was able to help the team to play the ball to them and create some chances also."

Janssen impressed against the League One side but he missed a host of chances before Kieran Trippier won a penalty at the start of the second half, with Spurs leading 2-0.

Christian Eriksen, on a hat trick, and Erik Lamela had discussions with Janssen about taking the spot kick but asked if he was going to give it up he replied: "No! I had a conversation with Chris and he told me I could take it, so I have to thank him for that.

"Erik asked me and I said I was going to take it. It was normal -- you discuss it with the players and I thought it was my chance so I took it.

"The team spirit is good. Everybody feels confident and good for each other. I was happy he gave me the ball and I could score my first goal."
