Mauricio Pochettino sure of more new Tottenham extensions after Eriksen

LONDON -- Mauricio Pochettino expects more of Tottenham Hotspur's key players to commit their futures to the club after Christian Eriksen agreed a new four-year deal.

Eriksen agreed a new contract until 2020, worth £75,000-a-week, on Tuesday and an Evening Standard report on Thursday claimed Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Harry Kane could soon follow suit, while Dele Alli may also be offered fresh terms despite only agreeing a new five-and-a-half-year deal in January.

Sources have previously told ESPN FC that Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela have both entered discussions with Tottenham about extending their contracts.

Pochettino, who himself signed a new five-year deal in May, believes Spurs' "main group" are committed to the club.

"Yes, sure. It's another player signing a new deal for the future," Pochettino told a news conference, when asked if more players would follow Eriksen's lead.

"We have a squad where the main group is very happy. You know sometimes players are not happy -- it's impossible that all 25 are at the same level. But we create a very good atmosphere in the changing room, training ground.

"They believe in the way we play and we work. I'm sure that a lot of players after Christian will show their commitment to the club."

Eriksen had been in talks with Tottenham since March and he rejected at least one proposal from the club, before Pochettino personally intervened to help both parties reach a resolution.

The Denmark international has started the season sluggishly and he was substituted with over 20 minutes remaining of the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last month after a particularly poor performance.

"To be honest, we were always behind him, trying to help, but subconsciously maybe speculation can affect you when you're in a process to negotiate your future," Pochettino said.

"It [the contract] is important for him and for the club, for us. Now it stops the rumours and he can be focused on playing football only. That is the last time that we talk about Eriksen's contract or rumours. We're all happy."

Eriksen's form has tended to fluctuate since he joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013 and his new deal makes him one of the club's highest earners.

Pochettino has previously urged patience with Eriksen and the Argentine says the midfielder deserves his new deal and will continue to improve.

"In the end, it's not money but the future," Pochettino said. "Sometimes it's difficult but we trust Christian Eriksen. He is happy to stay and there is no doubt he will improve his performance in the future.

"If the club gives him a better contract, it's because he deserves it. It's not about money, the performance. It's only about being focused in training, improving fitness, quality, relationships with teammates on the pitch. But there's no doubt about Christian Eriksen's quality, skills.

"The younger and more experienced players have ups and downs during 10 months of the season, and during their careers. We want all and we expect top performances in every game -- to play well, score goals -- and that is difficult. But there's no doubts about Christian. He is a very important player for us, as he was for a few years."
