Tottenham U18 boss Kieran McKenna joins Manchester United - sources

Tottenham under-18s coach Kieran McKenna has joined Manchester United, sources have told ESPN FC.

The 30-year-old will work in United's under-23 side and started at Carrington on Thursday.

The sources said that Tottenham are relaxed about the move, which is unrelated to the resignation of head of recruitment Paul Mitchell earlier this month, and that the club gave their blessing for McKenna to join United.

United have long admired Tottenham's youth set-up and they tried to recruit John McDermott -- Spurs' former academy director, who is now in charge of every team below the first team -- last year, but the Yorkshireman turned them down.

McDermott has been managing Spurs' under-18s this season, but Spurs are expected to replaced McKenna, who was on the club's books as a player for seven years before he was forced to retire in 2009 due to a persistent hip injury.
