Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld excited for Champions League at Wembley

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld says he cannot wait to play at "unbelievable" Wembley after experiencing the stadium for the first time.

Spurs trained on the Wembley pitch on Wednesday as they prepare to play this season's home Champions League matches at the national stadium.

The club, who reached the Champions League quarterfinals in their only other appearance in the competition in 2010-11, will find out their group stage opponents on Aug. 25, and Alderweireld is anticipating a brilliant atmosphere.

"I've been around but not to watch a game or a concert or anything so it's the first time ever for me and it's nice to be here," he told the club's official website. "I can't wait to play here in front of our fans.

"It's always nice to train and play in big stadiums and it's good to get the feeling for the Champions League games."

The pitch is significantly bigger than at White Hart Lane and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger described the Gunners' two seasons of Champions League football at Wembley from 1998 to 2000 as a "nightmare." Arsenal were knocked out in the group stage in both of their Champions League campaigns away from Highbury.

Alderweireld, however, believes training at Wembley will leave Spurs "comfortable" on the pitch ahead of their first match at the 90,000-seater venue.

"Obviously it's the first time to get a feel for how things are here and some of the small games in training will help us to get the feeling of how the pitch is, how big it is and allow us to get comfortable -- so it's a great initiative to train here," he said.

"It's an unbelievable place and when we play our games it's going to be full of supporters so I'm really looking forward to playing here with all the Spurs fans around us. Hopefully we'll be able to perform well and go through."
