Tottenham Hotspur stamp their mark on Union Lane in Melbourne

Tottenham Hotspur's trip to Melbourne has been commemorated with some street art in the city's famous "graffiti lanes."

New signing Victor Wanyama, Kevin Wimmer and youngsters Joshua Onomah and Harry Winks were joined by club legend Ledley King, now a global ambassador, to glue the new stencils to Union Lane's graffiti-covered walls.

The stencils, by artist Kitt Bennett who was also present, were commissioned by the state government of Victoria and although Spurs insisted Bennett had drawn generic players, some bore an uncanny resemblance to members of the current squad, including Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld.

Spurs are in Australia to play Juventus and Atletico Madrid in the International Champions Cup, and the stencilling is one of various events the club have planned around the city, including training sessions for 3,000 children by Spurs' global coaching team.

On Monday, manager Mauricio Pochettino apologised to the club's Australian fans for leaving stars like Kane and Alderweireld, who played in Euro 2016, at home.

"I am sorry to our supporters," he said.

"It would be great for all players to be involved in the tour in Australia. We saw last year, when we visited Sydney, it was amazing to see our supporters in Australia.

"I think they understand that it's very difficult -- they arrived a few days before we came here. It was a very difficult decision for me."

Tottenham will face Juventus on Tuesday at 7.30 p.m. AEST at the world-famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.
