Vincent Janssen: Bond with Mauricio Pochettino key to Tottenham move

Vincent Janssen says "an immediate" bond with Mauricio Pochettino was a key factor in his decision to join Tottenham.

Janssen completed his protracted transfer from AZ Alkmaar to Spurs on a four-year deal on Tuesday and sources have told ESPN FC the 22-year-old striker rejected advances from Paris Saint-Germain, Wolfsburg and West Ham.

The sources also said Janssen visited Spurs' North London training centre, Hotspur Way, two weeks ago and the player has revealed that a tour of the facility and a meeting with manager Pochettino convinced him to join Spurs.

"After the tour of the training ground and [White Hart Lane], I knew for sure that this is a fantastic club. The conversation with the coach was perfect as there was an immediate bond. He was clearly into the game and how he sees my future," Janssen told De Telegraaf.

During negotiations Janssen accused AZ of blocking his "dream transfer" after the Dutch club rejected an opening offer from Spurs.

He added: "It's a huge relief. The negotiations were difficult, but now I am a player of Tottenham Hotspur and would rather just look ahead. Of course, you doubt if it takes so long. But I've always loved to trust that my wish would be fulfilled."

Spurs will pay around £17 million for Janssen, capping a remarkable rise for the Netherlands international, who joined AZ for £500,000 from Dutch second tier club Almere City FC last summer.

"To be honest, that doesn't affect me, and I do not feel any pressure," he said. "Of course I want to play football. But I will need time to adapt. Yet I know there will be plenty of minutes. With the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup I will play many games with Spurs. And I'm going to enjoy all the playing time I get."

Meanwhile, Pochettino described Janssen as the "perfect fit" for Tottenham.

"Vincent is still very young and his potential is massive to develop," the Argentine told Tottenham's official website. "He has a profile that fits perfectly for us.

"He has quality in the box and he's a striker that likes to fight and work for the team. That is perfect for us. We are very happy and excited that he has joined us. His human profile is perfect for the team, we always care about that. In general, he's a player that fits the team.

"We're all excited. It's early in preseason, just the second week and he will have time to adapt. We wish all the best for him."
