Tottenham's Hugo Lloris one of the best goalkeepers - Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has described Hugo Lloris as "one of three best goalkeepers in the world" and says the Frenchman acts as a "relay" between himself and the Spurs squad.

Lloris, 29, signed a new five-year deal shortly after Pochettino joined Spurs in May 2014 and the Argentine named the goalkeeper as club captain last summer.

The Frenchman is the second-oldest player in Pochettino's squad -- behind backup goalkeeper Michel Vorm -- and the manager believes he is among the best in the world in his position and a bridge between the players and the coaching staff.

"He is at the peak of his career. He is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world," former Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux defender Pochettino told French daily L'Equipe.

"I only have good things to say about him. He comes in every day with the same hunger, the same desire to progress and to win.

"He makes his teammates shine and he is the perfect relay between a coach and his players. Mentally he is one of the strongest players I have coached."

Pochettino is currently on holiday in the Bahamas but he said he may return to Europe if Lloris' France play England -- who boast five Spurs players -- in the Euro 2016 quarterfinals.

"If France play England in the quarterfinals I really hope to be at the Stade de France for the match," Pochettino added.
