Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld targets title challenge next season

Toby Alderweireld has said Tottenham will learn from their disappointing end to the season and challenge for the Premier League title next time around.

The North London club had been battling for the crown with eventual winners Leicester City -- but they failed to win any of their last four games and faded to finish third behind fierce rivals Arsenal.

Belgium defender Alderweireld told Sky Sports he believed Mauricio Pochettino's side would learn from that disappointment as they lost their grip on second place with a 5-1 hammering at relegated Newcastle on the final day.

He said: "Of course we were very disappointed, because all of Tottenham wanted to get second, but overall we have to think we had a good season.

"I think it [Newcastle] was our worst game of the season, but next season is a new season.

"We have got guaranteed Champions League football, which we have not had for a couple of years, so it is the next step for the club.

"Next season we can come back stronger. We want to win it, and we will go for it."
