Tottenham close to deal to play at Wembley for at least a season - source

Tottenham are close to agreeing a deal with the Football Association to play at Wembley for at least one season, a source close to the negotiations has told ESPN FC.

Next season will be Spurs' last at White Hart Lane and they need a temporary home while the old ground is demolished and their new stadium is finalised.

Tottenham had considered stadium:mk -- the 30,500-capacity home of Championship club MK Dons -- but have settled on Wembley, and in February they confirmed they had held "positive talks" with the FA over the 90,000-seater national stadium.

The talks are being personally conducted by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and senior FA officials, and have progressed to a point where both parties are confident of reaching a deal, the source said.

Tottenham could move into Wembley for at least one season.

Levy is negotiating to play all of Spurs' home games at Wembley for up to two seasons, as a safety net should the new stadium not be finished in time for the start of the 2018-19 campaign as planned.

Spurs are confident in their timeline but wary of the unforeseen delays that hit the construction of Wembley and Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

On Friday, the club's new stadium project received a further green light after Haringey Council approved the plans.

Work has already begun on the 61,000-seater stadium after Spurs were granted permission by Haringey Council for the £400 million Northumberland Park project in mid-December.
