Eric Dier: Tottenham's Dele Alli reaping rewards of extra tranining

Eric Dier says Dele Alli's goal in Tottenham's 3-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday was the result of extra hours on the training pitch.

Alli's opened the scoring with a cool finish at White Hart Lane as Spurs stunned United with three goals in a six-minute second-half spell to keep the pace with Premier League leaders Leicester, and dent United's hopes of a top four finish.

The goal was Alli's eight in the league this season -- no English midfielder has scored more -- while he also netted on his full England debut in November.

However, the youngster, who turned 20 on Monday, has not scored since Feb. 2 and was guilty of glaring misses in England's 3-2 win over Germany last month and last week's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

"It was important I put that one away [on Sunday] as I've missed a few chances in recent games and training as Eric will tell you," Alli told Spurs TV as he was standing next to Dier.

Dier added: "To be fair he deserves it because yesterday [Saturday] he was out after training practising his finishing.

"I asked him why and he said it was because he'd missed quite a few so he deserves the goal for that. He did all right."
