Tottenham ready to become an even bigger club - Mauricio Pochettino

LONDON -- Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham Hotspur have "all the ingredients" to be one of the biggest clubs in England.

Manager Pochettino's title-chasing side host Manchester United on Sunday needing a victory to keep their hopes of a first league crown since 1961 alive.

The gap between the two clubs has narrowed since the retirement of former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, and Pochettino believes Tottenham have the potential to close it even further.

"We all know that Man United is an historic, big club. I think they have good players and it's a good challenge on Sunday," Pochettino told a news conference.

"Tottenham has the potential to improve and be better in the future -- a new stadium, an unbelievable training centre, an unbelievable academy, good staff and people.

"I think Tottenham have all the ingredients to be a potentially bigger club than we are now."

Pochettino said his job at every club he had worked for "is to try to help to develop the club to improve and be bigger."

But he warned that TV income would continue to reduce the difference between the Premier League's traditionally biggest clubs and the rest.

"In the present and the future it will be difficult for the top sides to stay competitive," he added. "The teams below will be more competitive.

"The income from the next few seasons is bigger, they can sign better players. Here, every season, the gap is reducing."

Victory over fifth-placed United would not only boost Tottenham's hopes of overhauling Leicester, who are seven points clear at the top, but also go a long way to ensuring a top four finish and Champions League football.

And Pochettino said: "We will see what happens, but we can't change anything.

"This is the race between different teams. Leicester deserve to be in the position they are, there is nothing to complain about.

"We can only try to win a very tough game against Manchester United and try to fight until the end of the season against Leicester and other teams too.

"You need to believe that in football, things can change."
