'Pleased' Mauricio Pochettino admits Tottenham lost control vs. Fiorentina

Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with Tottenham's 1-1 draw at Fiorentina but admitted the visitors lost control of the game in the second half.

Spurs dominated the first period of Thursday's Europa League last-32 first leg in an under-capacity Stadio Artemio Franchi and led through Nacer Chadli's 37th-minute penalty, after Ben Davies was tripped.

But the visitors were pegged back after the break and Federico Bernardeschi equalised with a long-range deflected strike, and the Serie A side looked more likely to grab a late winner.

Spurs drew 1-1 with La Viola at White Hart Lane at the same stage of last year's competition, before losing 2-0 in Italy, but Pochettino's side are now the favourites to progress ahead of next Thursday's second leg in London.

"Until they scored, we played much better, dominated the game and created the options and the chances. I am happy, very pleased. The effort was fantastic. After they scored, we conceded a little bit of possession of the ball and maybe we lost the control of the game. But in general, after 90 minutes, I'm happy with the performance," Pochettino told BT Sport.

"The momentum in the game sometimes changes and the opponent believes more -- like after we conceded the goal. We had all the control for 60 minutes but after they scored we didn't manage the ball properly and the game changed a little bit."

Dele Alli starred for the visitors but the teenager was lucky to escape with just a booking in the first half after appearing to kick Fiorentina's Nenad Tomovic.

Pochettino claimed he did not see the incident, adding: "I don't know. I didn't see from my position -- difficult. Sometimes during the game, you know, different actions happen. I need to assess on the video, see and analyse what happened."

While Pochettino was pleased, Chadli -- who started up front with Harry Kane among the substitutes -- said the Spurs squad were disappointing to come away with just a draw.

"It's very frustrating for the group because we played a good first half, managed to score the goal. It's not a bad result but we expected a bit better tonight," the Belgian said.

"We know how to play now. We're used to playing together and that's good. We created many chances and managed to score. It was a very positive first half. After their goal, we had a bit of difficulty but we still have the game at home and I think it's going to be good for us."

Ryan Mason, who captained Spurs for the first time on his first start since November, felt Fiorentina's fortuitous goal was a turning point in the match.

"Goals change games. The most important thing is to get the away goal. It's disappointing to give away a lead but 1-1 isn't a bad result. We're confident of going back to the Lane and getting a win," Mason said.

"We're confident against anyone at home. We've got our fans behind us and that's a massive part for us. Tonight's probably a fair result given how the second half went."
