Sir Alex Ferguson rates Pochettino as Prem's best - Tottenham MP Lammy

Sir Alex Ferguson rates Mauricio Pochettino as the best manager in the Premier League, according to the MP for Tottenham.

Pochettino has transformed Tottenham into a side capable of challenging for the title this season, with Spurs currently second in the Premier League table and five points behind leaders Leicester City.

Spurs have the best goal difference and defensive record in the top flight, and former United boss Ferguson has taken note of Pochettino's work, according to MP and Spurs fan David Lammy.

"I'm going to let you into a secret," Lammy told The Spurs Show, a Tottenham Hotspur podcast.

"About six weeks ago, I sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson at a dinner in support of grassroots football abroad. He said to me, 'I think you guys have got the best manager in the Premier League.' Alex Ferguson said that."

United are reported to be considering Pochettino, along with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal's assistant Ryan Giggs. to replace manager their Dutch boss in the summer.

While Mourinho remains the front-runner, Ferguson's reported opinion could prove significant. The Scot is a director and a club ambassador at Old Trafford after an unrivalled 27 years as manager.

Meanwhile, Sir Bobby Charlton, another influential figure behind the scenes at United, has previously said that Mourinho's controversial antics do not fit Manchester United and favours a head coach who can build for the future and blood young players -- just as Pochettino has done at Spurs.

However, United's current executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is expected to take the lead on choosing the club's next manager in consultation with the Glazer family, the owners.
